Squad Leader
Squad Leaders are the core of any competitive team. Teams hand their SLs different responsibilities, but every good SL is built on three things:
Command
Keep the squad on the plan
Comms
Relay between squad and command
Awareness
Watch the map, spot gaps early
The SL’s match, phase by phase
Section titled “The SL’s match, phase by phase”- Understand the strategy and how it shapes your lane.
- Flag problems the strategy team may have missed. You know the lane better than they do.
- Explain the strategy and the play style it needs to your squad.
- Keep the squad on what was agreed pre-game.
- Correct squad members who are out of position.
- Always have a rally up: make sure it is covered, and replace it when it is burned.
- Swap high-level information in command chat with the other SLs and the shotcaller.
- Use downtime to watch the map: coordinate with nearby squads, spot gaps, react to rally burns and call shots.
- Keep squad comms high quality. Relay between command and the squad, and make sure fireteam leaders place red markers.
- Review the squad’s performance.
- Go through misplays, your own included.
- Hold a debrief so the squad can raise frustrations or problems from the match.
