AT tactics & ambushes
Anti-tank isn’t just about aim. Where you wait, how you move and which kit you take decide whether you get the kill and survive it.
Attacking or defending?
Section titled “Attacking or defending?”You try to deny enemy vehicles parts of the map, destroying them or forcing them back to base, while your squad attacks a capture point or FOB.
Watch your ammo: a light vehicle only holds about 300 for the whole squad. Stay a little away from your squad’s infantry fights: ahead of them to catch vehicles early, or in the middle and off to one side.
You hold a point or stay near a HAB and ambush vehicles that overextend into your range, from good cover.
You’ll have more ammo inside a FOB circle. Ask your SL to place ammo crates at pre-planned hiding spots so you can rearm fast.
Which kit?
Section titled “Which kit?”More Tandems or a stronger launcher. You fight on the enemy’s terms, from longer range, with less ammo.
You have more ammo, so you need the strong launcher less, and you’ll get into more infantry fights holding the objective.
In the end it’s down to preference and what’s available. Any AT kit can be fun.
Ambushes
Section titled “Ambushes”Use bushes, trees, buildings and rocks to catch vehicles off guard.
- Much better chance of hitting and killing the vehicle
- Much better chance of surviving: if they can’t see you, they can’t shoot you
- You can often get two or more shots off before you’re found (with ammo nearby)
- You have to move after the first or second shot
- If you’re found, you’re usually stuck and dead
- It can be slow if you set up long before a vehicle comes
By terrain
Section titled “By terrain”Don’t sit on the tree line; you’re easy to spot there. Sit deeper in the forest, hidden from the angles you’re not watching. Avoid rocky high ground: you stand out against the sky, and crews check those spots first.
Little cover, long sightlines. Keep the ambush team to 2–3 people and stay mobile. You’ll usually get one shot per person before the rocket smoke gives you away, so move well away after firing.
The AT’s favourite: apartments, rooftops, alleys. Stay hidden until the vehicle is where you can see and hit it (your squad’s comms tell you when), fire, then disappear into the building until the return fire stops.
Setting up with your squad
Section titled “Setting up with your squad”Ambushing a road with your whole squad? Three layouts:
- Friendly-fire risk
- Safe from infantry
- Set-up
- Harder
Squad and ATs all on one side of the road. Safest for friendly fire, but hard to give everyone a view of the vehicle.

- Set-up
- Easier
ATs on one side, the rest of the squad on the other. More friendly-fire risk, but the squad protects the ambush from enemy infantry.

- Medium
ATs alternate sides, with one fireteam on each side. Space the ATs out to cut friendly fire. Hardest for enemy infantry to roll up.
