Grenadier: launchers & ranging

All HE grenades behave the same, whatever the launcher.

10 m
Arming distance: closer than this, it won’t explode
15 m
Splash radius
~3 m
Radius for a sure kill
7
Ammo per HE round (10 per smoke round)

Every grenade launcher in the game falls into one of five types:

M203
The typical under-barrel launcher.
GP-25
Under-barrel, with a “mortar mode” (below).
M320
Always has to be loaded again when you switch to it.
MGL
6-round drum. Burns through ammo fast, but is cheaper to rearm: 30 ammo for a full drum, 5 per round instead of 7.
QLZ87
6-round drum with a bipod. A reload costs 10 ammo, so it is much cheaper per round, and it hits harder.
Smoke rounds
10 ammo each, and they damage whoever they hit directly.
  1. 1Get a distance

From a map marker, the map grid or a landmark.

  2. 2Set your sights

Use the mark in your sight for that range.

  3. 3Fire and adjust

Correct for height and use the splash: you don’t need a direct hit.

Only squad leader markers show a distance, and it gets less precise the further away the marker is:

Distance to the marker Shown in steps of
1–30 m 1 m
30–100 m 5 m
100–300 m 10 m
300 m and more 50 m

Depending on how far you zoom in, the map’s grid squares show distances from 300 m down to about 33 m. Use landmarks, or a fireteam leader’s marker, to estimate how far the target is.

  • Height: shooting up or down a slope, the distance along the ground is shorter than the straight line to the target. Aim for the flat distance.
  • Splash: with a 15 m splash, landing close is often enough. Aim for where the enemy is standing, not for a perfect hit.

With the GP-25 you can fire almost straight up from behind cover and drop the grenade on the enemy, without ever showing yourself.

Aim fully vertical. Depending on the range, face towards the enemy or turn your back to them, and set your sight as in the table:

Range Face Sight setting
490 m Away from the enemy 300 m, high
390 m Away from the enemy 200 m, high
220 m Away from the enemy 500 m
160 m Towards the enemy 100 m
150 m Away from the enemy 400 m
110 m Towards the enemy 50 m
100 m Away from the enemy 300 m
0 m Away from the enemy 200 m: lands on you

A specialist kit, classed as Heavy Grenadier.

25 m
Arming distance
100–1300 m
Range, set in 100 m steps
80 mm
Penetration: about a fifth of an RPG-7 HEAT rocket
  • Effective against infantry and light vehicles.
  • Two versions: iron sights, or a 3× scope. With the scope you can’t set the range; use the marks in the sight instead.
  • It’s the same launcher as on some emplacements and vehicles, which have a 15-round drum.
  • This kit only gets throwable smoke grenades, no smoke rounds.
  • A rearm always costs 10 ammo, even after one shot. Empty the drum before you rearm.
